Help needed getting heater blower up and running again.

Post by Sweetblu »

I have got anothe rquestion for the experts here on the forums.

My 72 ranger has a non working Heater blower, but it may not be the motors fault. This truck has got some of the WORST rewires and "fixes" I have ever seen (I have 3 wires hanging down to power a 3 way switch for power to the radio/cd player) Anyways, there are 2 wires coming from the motor, one orange and one black. The black one runs up where the GB is and grounds, and the Orange was hooked to something like a switch by a previous owner at some point. If I hook up live power to the orange wire nothing happens other than the wire gets warm...

- The switch is in tach in the dash and the boxy connector coming off it isn't connected to anything (brown wire I think) and the other 3 wires go off behind the heater core box.

Why do I not get any action with the orange wires form the motor, and where is it supposed to go. Also where exactly do the wires go behind the heater box?

Any he;p is appreciated. And if i do need a new motor do they come out as easily as it looks like they do? And how much to replace?

Again thanks in advance everyone

if the blower doesnt work with straight battery power then the motor may be bad. or even stuck. you could pull it out of the housing 4 screws. and spin the wheel and put power to it at the same time. it may or may not stay working after reinstalled. if it was stuck. that means the end bushings could need oiled up. becarefull putting oil in the end bushings. it could run into the motor and burn up the motor.

the heater blower switch in th eheater control bezel is where the switch to turn on the blower is at originally. that switch plugs into both the heater blower and the resistor behind the heater box. the resistor is what reduces the speeds of the blower so yo ucan get three speeds of blower motor control. here is the heater wirign diagram. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... heater.jpg

if you need any heater parts i have several good motors and a good switch. i dont know i fi have any resistors. but i do have the wiring from the switch to the resistor and the motor.

The wiring diagram doesn't show an orange wire coming from the motor and this confuses me. lol

- How do I get a wire from the resistor behind the box to the motor? (over the top or bottom?) And is there room back there? Or can you pull the resistor out with the wiring? And what would you charge for the motor if I need one?

(There is a place here locally called "tony 's fords" that has a bunch of stuff i might check with them and see what he would charge for one as well)

wel the motor wire color isnt marked on that page. but as we can see it is ornage on the motors in our trucks. the wire and plug for the resistor go over the top of the heater box to the resistor plug. if you pull that plug off you have to wiggle it up. and down ward. to get it to gently come off without breakign the resistor board. for a motor 10.00 plus shipping. here is a picture o f the wiring that goes between the switch and the resistor. with the power in clip and the blower motor plug.

Yup, that's exactly what the system looks like. lol

Question: Where does the brown wire go to? I also have this coming up from the back of the heater core box.... what does it connect to? The orange wire from the motor?

Sweet. What do you think shipping would be for the motor? I am gonna drive by Tony's today and see what hes got going in the motor realm.

And as for mine, I hooked it up right to the battery and it would spin, but then get slower and slower, and the wires would get hotter and hotter lol. So I assume it is toasted.
