battery or starter?
Hey. Need some advice troubleshooting the starting system. my dilemma is a dragging starter, especially when motor is hot. This is a fairly new powermaster starter from summit. its out of warranty but the truck has probably has less than a 1000 miles on it since installing. The battery holds a 13+ volts . what should it be under a load and how do i check the starter? Im tired of putting starters on this thing. yes i do have headers but the starter is wrapped.

Re: battery or starter?
starter dragging problems are several things when hot.
bad battery.
bad cable connections
worn otu starter end bushings
hot starter. especially with headers. with and without wrap it could happen
incorrect timing.
i would check the timing first and make adjustments as nessisary. then ad more or better heat wrap. or a shield. the newer ford trucks had a bad cable connection to the cable end that goes to the starter. it could be that too. and only acts up when hot.

there are three wires that go to the engine from the firewall on a 69 one is oil pressure one is water temp and the third one goes to the coil from the ignition switch and the starter relay has a brown wire that ties in behind the firewall . coming from the starter relay.

this is a single wire probable 8 gauge . its connected with a screw to the firewall then under an intake bolt.
