Another 48 Flathead Question for the flathead guys out there

Post by Project Rustoleum »

I have a 48 226 ci. 6 cylinder flatead that is in desperate need of a generator. I have a generator here, but the part number suggests that it is for a 52 Ford. It's a 6 volt system. Is there a reason that it shouldn't fit in the 48? Does anybody know if there were any changes in the wiring systems between 48-52? All the generators I see online are for 49 and newer, but none for a 48.. Anybody know? And I'm sorry for posting about an older vehicle than our beloved bumpsides, but I just don't know any other site as good as this one for technical advice. Thank you all again for your time.

I went to speedway motors web and put in generator and it came up as 38-48 6v pos. and 49-52 6v pos. but they list them as altenators. they have a mon.-fri. tech line. Might give them a call!

Yea i was gunna say they prob changed the ground. if thats the case then wouldnt just polarizing the regulator the way you need it be all? I mean the generator doesnt care which way eelctrons flow does it? but the regulator would. :hmm:

I talked to the guys at Mac's and I just ordered a gen for the thing. Im'a take the one I have to Oreill'ys and get it tested if they can and I'll put it on Ebay or something.. Gotta get a master cylinder and taillights and I'll be ready to drive. Now if I could just get my 69 a motor.. Think I'll try for that this weekend...
