New wiring Harness (Help!!)

Post by la1031 »

I am installing a new wiring harness in my truck. All the diagrams that came with the harness are setup up for generic Chebby switches that came with it. I want to use my original Ford switches, Ignition, wiper, headlight.
What I need to know is....

What wires go to what terminal on the back of the original Ford switches? I am using the original Ignition 1968, original Headlight 1968, and the delay wiper switch, and the remote emergency flasher switch that is inthe glove box. What I am doing is connecting my new harness to the original switch plugs that snap into each switch. I have looked up on this website and it shows what wires goto the switch . I need it broken down by each terminal on each switch.

Help please...

Thanks Fordman. I am still a little lost on Headlight switch. So many wires, not enough aspirin!!! :cry:

The wiper and ignition are clearly marked, but HL and flasher I guess I have to do the follow the line game.

OK, so this is just me and it might not help, but here it is. I think if you just attach the wires wherever they terminate and follow them back to the dash and wire they according to this diagram. I guess what I'm try to say is connect the wires to the alt, coil, heater and such. Then just work back words to the switches. Hope this helps.

yea that is where these manufacturees mess up. they say it will fit your truck blah blah blah. and when you get it . it doesnt work liek they thought they said it would. you have to play the tracing game. it would be better if they would just get a diagram of our trucks and mark each line as to its position or orginal color. or better yet. use the original coloring of the orginal wires. i tmakes it harder fro me to help. because i have no idea what colors they ar eusing so i cant help tell you which wire goes in which place. i myself had thought about making up these harnesses myself and selling them with original plugs. where i could. right now i could make three harnesses out fo what i have here. plug wise. i would have to do some sort of core program to keep up making and selling these harnesses to plug and play in our trucks. and some guys may never send in there cores. so you get shorted again. so i doubt i will ever do it for that reason.

Using the diagrams you can figure most of it out as they have the shape of the connector on them with the pins to show what is where... However the one for the Ignition switch is Incorrect :roll: If you look at the ignition switch it will be marked A,C,B,S,and PO... A=Accessory, C=Coil- which is the wire to the distributor coil, B=Battery- main power into the switch, S=starter- this is the wire to the starter relay, PO=proof Out- this is for the grounding signal for checking the break light.
You can check the switches with an Ohm meter to find out what terminal are for what with a little time checking the pins and switch settings. :wink: but if you have the stock wires on the plug you can follow the diagrams for what color of wire does what and then correlate that to the pin on the switch to use with the new wire. :2cents:

The Headlight switch;

The big Black/red striped wire is the main power wire from the battery
Black/yellow striped is the front marker lights
Brown wire is the rear marker/tail lights
Big Red/yellow striped is the Headlight power to the dimmer switch
Green/yellow striped wires: one goes to the door switches and the other to the fuse block for power for the dome light
Black/blue striped wire goes to the dome light and other wire on the door switches
Light Blue/red striped wire goes to the instrument panel lights and is fused through the fuse box
