Kill switch

I want to put a switch inline in the resistor wire that goes to the coil and solenoid. If I do it in the resistor wire it will stop the coil and wont power the solenoid. Just want some thoughts on the cutting and splicing of the resistor wire.

One way to do it without splicing is just run a switched wire to ground and add the wire to the (-) Negative side of the coil. With the switch on, grounding the coil wire it wont let power get to the coil... The good thing about this is that it makes it a bit harder to Hot Wire it under the hood, as you have to physically remove the wire before jumpering the coil.
The other way would be to wire the switch in the Red/green striped (non-resistive) section of wire so as not to cut into the pink resistive wire.

Wont grounding the positive side of the coil cause a short? My pink wire comes out of the ing switch all the wat to the firewall.

Yes, I should have said the (-) Negative side as then the coil will buffer it some. But that is the idea to not let the coil get signal to work, just like having the points closed all the time.
If you cut into the Resistive wire you change the resistance of the wire so you could end up getting less voltage to the coil then before = less hot of a spark...

Would this plan still work with a tach?

Yes, when the switch is off the circuit is just as normal so everything else will work as it should.

One question just to clarify; Are you wanting this as a Theft Deterrent or are you re-wiring out the ignition switch?

anti theft device. The reason for this idea is so it should kill the solenoid so it wont crank and also kill the coil so you couldn't push start it or jump the solenoid.

then the wire to the coil switched to ground like I mentioned here is the way to go... as most wont be smart enough to cut this wire to get it to start, even if they ran a jumper wire from the battery to the coil it still wont start when that wire is connected to ground. ; But if you just put a hidden switch in line of the ignition wire they could (usually) will wire a hot wire to the coil from the battery and it would still start.
