Sounds like if it ain't just an odity then somebody though they would get by with on flasher fuse. And rewire it in in a way that looks very factory.
Then again it could be a truck or two that rolled off before they changed to seperate fuses and requiring the key for the directional sigs to work.

Re: Mystery Flasher?
Well, it's been a few years since I posted this thread - and today I think this mystery flasher has finally given up the ghost - and it's raining cats and dogs here and can't get 'er into the garage (my wagon is in there and my "newly acquired" 63 Ranchero is in the carport) to figure out what went wrong. But anyway, I never changed this to 2 flashers and once I got the truck all back together (was it 4 years ago !) everything had worked with the old two flashers in one box - so I never did nothing about it. Today I head off to clean up the truck a little 'cause I got to use it tomorrow and the turn signals don't do nothing - e-flasher either. No lights come on when I throw the switches - zip/nada/nothing. So, I've got to scratch my head and figure out 4 years later what I should have just done while it was fresh in my mind. I hate it when I do that.
Has anybody just added a heavy duty round flasher in and thrown the switch? This only has two terminals like a round flasher, but I'm not sure which wire would go to which side of the flasher. Get out the books I guess, unless any of you have suggestions or tips.
Thanks...

Re: Mystery Flasher?
Yep others with early 67's have found the same thing... There have been some flashers on Ebay once in a while but if you just get a heavy duty flasher and some spade connectors (male and female) and a couple of short pieces of wire you can adapt it to work, just hook the wires up the same way they are now, as the plug is keyed the same way, just that the early 67 one like you have has a male and female where the new flasher has both males on it.

Re: Mystery Flasher?
Thanks- Just got in from doing just that. Dug around in my multiple bins of parts and found a flasher connector, figured out which wire was positive, hooked up the male spade to the wire going to the + and the female to the other terminal -- unplugged the two wires from the box and into the spade connectors - and wa-la, turn signals are back in business!
Have yet to check the e-flashers (DOH) but it was still pretty nasty out there and I just wanted to get inside. I'm sure they'll work.
Sure liked how loud the old one was. The truck is a screamer and I'll probably now drive all over town with them flashing. Saw posts about a piezoelectric indicator here - may just have to look into that. Got a few of those around here somewhere too...
Thanks again!

Re: Mystery Flasher?
Looks like that single square flasher was used on trucks built prior to december '66 and after that Ford used two separate flashers. Was working on a friend's '67 Fairlane the other day and it had one of those box flashers too but a little smaller.

Re: Mystery Flasher?
there is a split at a very early seiral number where the flasher was changed from one to the other. the early flasher with male and female prongs is a sf106. then there is also a sf101. but that has two male prongs on it.
EDIT: here is the info on the part number and serial numbers for those flashers.

This is a dual-duty flasher, used for both the turn signals and emergency flashers. The D2TB number stamped on the one you have is an engineering/ID number, not a part number. Apparently Ford had a better idea when they changed the flasher in 72 (hence, the D2), and they went to an electro-mechanical unit. The flasher should have "Ever-Flash) on the back side, and it was manufactured by Truk-Lite (who acquired Signal Stat from Federal Mogul in 2002). Truk-Lite still makes a similar flasher, but none with one male/one female terminal.
The later trucks (S/N A52,001-up) use D0AZ 13350-C (SF228-S) for the turn signals and D1FZ 13350-A (SF-552-B) for the emergency flashers.
From what I can tell, 64-66 light AND heavy trucks used the same configuration as the late 67's. The early-67 version was used in most of the heavy-duty trucks BEGINNING in 66 and continuing on up through 72. That being said, since the heavy-duty trucks encountered a lot more bouncing/bumping/vibration, it stands to reason that the Ever-Flash unit is a more durable flasher or is more reliable with more current draw on it because of the additional lights on a heavy-duty truck.
If I had to guess, the C7TZ 13350-A is the original part number, which was, most likely, replaced by the C7TZ-B sometime around 1972. I've got 7 or 8 NOS C7TZ-B's (still in the Ford/Motorcraft boxes), and they are all identical to the one you have pictured.
Hopefully, this answers your question.
