ignition switch
How can you tell if ignition switch is bad. The truck will try to start and then dies as soon as you let the key go. I have already replaced starter solenoid and coil. Anyway to check with out just throwing more parts on. Thanks for any help.

Re: ignition switch
The solenoid and coil are not the issue here. The coil is firing while the starter runs. That's cause the coil is getting electricity from the resister bypass which goes through the solenoid. When you release the key from "start" position the bypass gets turned off and the engine stops.
I just realized I can't tell you how to check the switch. It's the switch, resister wire or a connection.

Re: ignition switch
i would say it is a bad switch or a loose connection to the switch.

Re: ignition switch
Check the wire you wired in replacement of the resistor wire to the (+) side of the coil for power, with the key in the RUN position. If no power then follow that wire back to the switch and check it there.

Re: ignition switch
I was thinking about that wire today. I'm out of town right now so it will be tomorrow afternoon before I can check it. I bet thats what it is after I got to thinking about it. Thanks, will let you know what I find.

Re: ignition switch
Didn't get to check volts, because battery was dead in meter. So I just made sure truck was not going to start before I messed with anything. It would not run,but would start then die as soon as key was let go. I pulled switch so I could get good look. Moved the wire where it was replaced for resister wire and it started and stayed running. I redone the connections and have been driving it all day. Stopping and turning off ignition every little bit and have not had anymore problems getting it to run.Must have been the problem we will see. Thanks Thunder foot for the idea.
