What size Batteries does this thing take?

i think a poor ground could help it loose power and not want to run at full capicity. on our truck that havent been modified. the only frame to body ground i can think of is from the lower valance to the frame. and that is probably only strong enough to run lights. of course the bed is grounded to the frame and the tail lights are grounded to the bed. as well the headlights and parkign lights are grounded to the core support. and then the body is grounded to the engine. and the battery is grounded to the battery.

Think of Electricity (current) that it flows kind of like water. If you have a big barrel (100gal) to fill, do you want to use a 1/4 diameter hose or would you use a 2" hose to fill it... Small wire will only let so much current flow the same way except it will also heat up, from the current trying to flow fast enough to the suction of the drain (winch), and the hotter it gets the slower it (current) flows... so the electric motor is starving for fuel...

makes sense, I do know that my ground at the lower valance is gone, so it looks like I am going to be buying a new cable to use as ground.

From what I understand about deep cycle batteries I don't think I'd use one for starting. They are designed to be drawn down almost all the way and then recharged. I don't think the battery would last as long in the truck. If you wanted something dedicated to the winch then I'd say to get one.

That is FALSE Lead acid batteries have no memory, draining them down all the way will kill them faster then anything. Deep Cycle batteries are built using the same basic materials as the regular batteries but have thicker plates to handle greater discharging (bigger reserves) without killing them. Look at the info posted in the link that Fordman posted above all this info is in there.

I read though that and there is some good stuff there. I was just going off what I have seen with boat batteries. I guess not everything you think you know you really know! Does that make sense?!?

No problem I know what you are saying, I've learned to unlearn some things that were told to me before from hearsay of stuff... factual information is great to have with the information behind it. that is what is great about this board is sharing of info.
