wiring a electric fuel pump to ignition switch

Post by george worley »

I need to know what color the wire is on the back of the ignition switch that is hot when the key is on. the truck is a 68 Ranger F-100. I am having trouble following the wiring diagram.

There is a 3 wire plug coming off the switch that should have an empty port. I would use that wire to trigger a relay to run the electric pump.
Why do you want an electric pump?

I have had the pump on a toggle switch with a relay from the battery for a couple of years and now I have decided to power it from the ignition switch. My truck sets for weeks and it started easier when I could turn on the pump and prime the carb. before I started the engine. It seems todays fuel evaporates quicker. The engine is a 390 with a 750 holley .

Wire you want to activate your relay from the ignition switch should be "Black with a Green stripe" :) and there should be as Bobby said a 3 port plug that you can use a bullet connector to plug right in.
