Do I need this wire for EFI?

Post by marz68 »

I'm rewiring my truck and will be eliminating any wires that are not needed.
So the wire im talking about in this case is the resistor wire coming from the ignition swich?
Will I need this if im running EFI?
If I remember correctly this wire is only for the points dizzy?

the resistor wire that coems from the ignition switch is added on up by the firewall inside the cab. it doesnt go all the way to the ignition switch. so you can remove that part of the wire and add on the wire you will need to power the coil.

Do you think that if I use that wire with the resitor part for my coil will it cause any problems?

the resistor wire if left in place will not let you get a full 12 volts to the coil. i do not know how much power the efi coils are suppose to get. but i think its a full 12 volts.

Thanks!
The reason I ask is because I was having problems with a missfire in the intake.
Hope this fixes that.

2ga cable.. minimum. Ground to the block, and run a ground strap from one of the bellhousing bolts to the frame. Remember on your EFI conversion you have GOT to have good voltage. Don't know if you've done a 3G upgrade, but now would certainly be a good time to do so. As far as the coil, you'll need to go straight to switch & bypass the resistance wire. The TFI coil needs system voltqage to operate, as will whatever EFI management system you're using.

as always... :2cents:

Ok I will definitely add more grounds.
Yes I already have the 3G alt.
Thanks
