Brighter brake lights with stock bulb. "L.E.D" now

Post by marz68 »

I was thinking of a way to make my brake lights brighter with the stock bulb and the only thing that came to mind was to chrome out the assembly that the red cover attaches to. I thought about buying some chrome paint first and spray it with that and see the results, then if that works then I'll send them out to get real chrome on them.
I already did the auto zone LED bulb but that sucked a$$ because it only consentrates the light in a beam unlike the stock bulb.

What are your thoughts?

i remebr a thread that soemone made a board of some sort and placed leds all around it and put it inside of the tail light housing. it made them brighter. maybe a search for leds would uncover the thread. i know there arent that many led threads.

Try painting the inside of the housings white. :2cents:

I did that to the parking light housings on a 66 Impala I had YEARS ago, and it made a significant difference!!

Chrome will definitely help as it will reflect the light better, lots of new car tail light housing are like this. :2cents:

It was 67FARMTRUCK that did the Led taillights in his truck, nice work as well. Here is the thread:

There are bulbs out there that are supposed to be brighter, but I don't know anything about them other then I need to look into them

I think I will chrome it out, at one point I had aluminum foil in there and it made it brighter but it didnt last as much as chrome will.
I'll do the chrome in a can first on one light and if I like the results i'll leave them like that.
I'll post some pics as soon as I get started.

Just a suggestion.

Since you're going to be painting, anyhow, paint one white and one with the "Chrome In a Can" and let the rest of us see the difference.

Flat white.
You can use a 2057 bulb as well, little bit brighter. Check the grounds on the taillights themselves & make sure you have a good connection.

So here are the results.
I'm not to happy but it's a little better that stock but not by much.
I think that if I chrome them out with real chrome they will make a difference.
