What one wire alternator fits?

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on what alternator will fit in the stock brackets. I am doing a totally new harness, and it's set up for a 1-wire alternator. Since the engine bay will be a lot cleaner with out the voltage regulator or not, I figured this is the best time to do it. So, what fits?

i think the mustang 1 wire alternator bolts up to the fe blocks as long as you order it for a early stang.

I tried wading through that thread, and it was hard to pick out a definitive answer. I also asked a question in that thread and I never got an answer. I don't really care about the 3G thing, I just need a 1-wire alternator. If there is something I can buy new that was an OEM alternator on something, that's what I'm looking for. I don't want a "converted" one wire or anything like that. I want to be able to order another one from NAPA if I ever have a problem.

Those are not 1-wire though are they? Part of the instructions on the conversion includes using part of the original harness and hooking it up to the original regulator, and I'm trying to avoid using an external regulator. Unless I'm misreading that part.

The 3G alternators have an activation wire (alt wire) from the ignition + the main charge wire to the battery = 2 wires; a "1 wire" alternator just has the main power wire to the alternator, as they are self activating = 1 wire... There are no factory alternators that I know of that are like this (1 wire), just aftermarket kitted ones...
So, are you saying that your wire harness doesn't have and "ALT" wire that is activated from the ignition? If so then you will have to get an aftermarket setup like one from Powermasters http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/index.html or other race/hot rod alternator places, or you can get a 1 wire regulator kit to convert the stock alternator to a "1 wire" alternator, like this one http://www.falconparts.com/One%20Wire%20Alternator.htm.

If your wire harness does have the "ALT" wire (should be a resistive wire) then the 3G alternator is what you will want to use as they are internally regulated and you can basically wire them up with 2 wires. The sense and main power wire hooked together and the exciter (ALT wire) hooked to the alternator as in this diagram. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 30#p362319
Or you can still use the same stock voltage regulator and alternator your truck has, as all you need is 1 wire from the ignition to the voltage regulator the rest of the wires go to the alternator and battery... The 3G has a built in regulator so you don't have the extra wires running around, and are a higher output.

Ahh, I see now. Thank you for spelling that out for me. My harness does have an ALT wire, so I should be good.

Oh, and btw, you need to get an alternator from a V6 Mustang. The V8 one is a bottom mount. I don't think that was specified.
