Electric fuel pump
The PO set up for my electric fuel pump is starting to fail so I am going to rewire the whole thing. What would be some options to hook it up to?

How bad do they vapor lock? It gets very hot a humid down here. And sitting out at the race track makes for some very hot truck.

I wired mine direct off of the battery with a inline fuse and a toggle switch. If you hide the switch it makes a pretty good anti theft device. I just have to remember to turn it on and off.

Re: Electric fuel pump
I was emailed by a old GH guy, and we continued to email, and finally talked on the phone.
He was talking about the neighbors complaining that the bells would bother them when the GH trucks would return to the depot, so they took a cloth pin, and pinned the bells up so they wouldn't ring. He also said that cloth pins were standard equipment on all GH trucks, he said they would line the pins up on the fuel lines to prevent vapor lock.
I expressed my disbelief in that, but he swore it worked. He said that any truck they had problems with vapor lock, they would put a bunch of cloth pins on the fuel line, and it never vapor locked again.
Just thought I would share the story....... Can't wait for one of you guys to try it and prove it right or wrong.
I really don't even know if they even make wooden springy cloth pins anymore. I do know the truck I am restoring now had a bunch of then in the cash box, and when I seen them, it made me laugh.

Re: Electric fuel pump
I would wire it with a Relay, off the battery... Main power from the battery (with a circuit breaker sized for the pump) to the Relay then to the pump, then you can activate the Relay from a Key On power source. This way it turns off and on with the key.

Re: Electric fuel pump
Years back I ran an elec. fuel pump. Had some problems with it. Mech. every since. Only had one mech. fuel pump go out over the years, and I have had a bunch of different vehicles.

May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

That's the way I wired mine and it works great.

Re: Electric fuel pump
Old school trick I've used before and yes it really works, and yes they do still make wooden clothes pins. The theory of how it works in on the principle of the clothespin acting as a heatsink. Working with ACR copper tubing my entire life I've seen it many times when soldering, (something nearby acting as a heatsink drawing the torches heat away making it harder to solder). The Good Humor Man on Tue Dec 07, 2010 7:44 pm
