On the flasher... Only if it were shorted out internally would it affect the brake lights, not having one will not affect anything...

Yes! that WONT work, you will lose the function of your turn signals if you do that. You have to run the brake lights through the TSS (Turn Signal Switch) as that is what disconnects the brake light function on the side you have the turn signal on otherwise the brake lights will over ride the turn flasher. Check that you have power on the Red/black striped wire going into the TSS connector when the brakes are applied, if you do then your problem is the TSS (this is a common problem) and you will need to take the steering wheel off and check it out.

Yep, it may turn a different color up the column, check it for power on both sides of the connector.

***UPDATE***

ok so i charged up my battery lastnight, left the brake light switch in the on position cause it was removed from the holder, and low and behold i have brake lights, it magically fixed itself lol. actually i dunno if it was me fixing the hack job wiring and making everything solid again or what. but thats my guess.

 8)

If they go out again I would check the connection at that connector (TSS) as that was the last thing you were moving around checking on, but hopefully it was the wiring you fixed.
