No high Beams

Post by kelton »

The High beams on my truck went a few days ago. The low beams work just fine but when the click the dimmer switch the high beam jewel lights up and both head lights go out. I just replaced the dimmer switch today but no change. Any ideas?? Thanks

It is rare but does happen... That both of your headlights burnt the High Beam elements out at the same time... You can check the lights with on Ohm meter to see if this is the problem before buying new lights. FYI there was another member that did just have both lights go bad at the same time about a month or so ago...
The other would be that the High beam wire has broken somewhere from the dimmer switch to the head lights, it would be in the harness from the dimmer to the firewall plug as it splits off there to each headlight. This wire is Green/black stripped wire #12 in this diagram. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _81-85.jpg

Let us know how it goes.

Once you get them out, to check them with an ohm meter you just check for continuity between the one bottom leg on the light with the other two that are across from each other one at a time. They both should have continuity, as one is for the low beam and the other is for the high beam. The single bottom leg is the ground for light elements.
Hope that is understandable if not I can do a drawing to explain better if needed. :)
