trailer light looking connection under the dash

Post by kilog55 »

ok i have a 4 pin trailer light style connector under my dash on the left side of the steering column, the 4 wires are snipped and 2 are twisted together. im guessing this isnt a ford factory harness.

am i right or wrong? im gonna trace the wires tomorrow and see if they even go anywhere, there is power going to it

The neutral safety switch connector is shaped like that. I'm guessing your truck starts in all gears, and the back-up lights don't work?

Is the NSS still attached to the steering column?

by twistign the wires together they have bypassed the nss. and now you wont have any backup lights unless you rig soemthing up or fix your wiring so that a nss can be installed.

Your engine/trans combo has nothing to do with the NSS and Reverse lights as it is all controlled by the Steering Column (originally) as Keith showed above... It is pretty common for the tang on the column that activates the switch to come off and then people just bypass them as yours is, which makes it start in any gear and have no reverse lights... If your steering column is not the stock one then this would also be why the stuff is not there for this...

IF your truck is not using the stock automatic column shifter and has a floor shifter, then you can get floor shifters with the switches in them and just run wires over to that connector under the dash and then everything will work as it should.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
