some early 67 had a square flasher in them and the prongs were different one male and one female. other 67's had a square flasher with two female connectors that plugged in like the 68 and up trucks. and yet again other later 67's had the round flasher can. but as i understand it . power goes in and the flasher makes it alternate the power out.

Only if there's actually a load on them. If there's no load (as in no light bulbs), the flash isn't gonna work. You have to check it with a load, usually at least two light bulbs...one won't usually have enough of a load. Checking the continuity usually won't tell you unless it is completely burnt out.
