a wire from the ignition switch will go to the front terminal on the solenoid. the rear terminal will go to the coil. there will also be a resistor wire from the switch to the coil. as the solenoid wont power the coil full time. only at start up when the solenoid is engauged. and you know i have always asked this question myself. and now i just figured out how to do it.

So there will be 2 wires going too the coil + side I did get a reistor block with my coil so I sould use the then?
I will look and see what my wires are going too.

Ok this is what I have right now. I have a on and off switch one wire from the + side of the battery goes too one side of the switch then the other side of the switch 2 wires come off from here one too the + side of the coil then the other too the push button switch. One wire goes too the relay from the push button the S on the relay. Then a wire from the relay too the the + side of the coil the I on the relay. Hope I have this right?

it sounds like yo uhave a on off switch and a push button for start. here is the way to do it that i tried to explain earlier. in this diagram. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wiring/68-09.jpg you use wire 262 to bypass the switches intirely. 16A (the resistor wire) comes from the start push button or ignition switch. wire 32 is power to the switch. which in the diagram goes through either the nss bypass or nss switch ont he column wire 32A. ignore that for what your doing. you need one wire staight to the switch from the solenoid.

As far as I can tell it looks good except for the black wire (Ground to Frame) you have on the starter relay (Selenoid) should not be there. That post on the relay has 12v when starting and if you want you can lead a wire from that post to the + side of the coil. It's supposed to help with starting since it would give the coil 12 volts while starting.
Other will come along and give more input if needed.

So what you are saying is too use this wiring and it should work right? Do I still need a resistor wire?

Swap which sides of the solenoid go to the battery and the starter. The battery should hook to the side post nearest the start post. I'm not sure how big of a deal that is, but that's how it gets wired in a vehicle. Be sure to also ground the metal bracket attached to the solenoid. That's necessary to complete the circuit so it'll clamp when power is given to the start pin.

Also, install a resistor between the on/off switch and the ignition coil. Then install a wire from the empty pin on the solenoid and run that also to the + side of the coil. That is, assuming that's a stock-type coil. If it's a aftermarket or TFI coil that can handle 12 volts, then you'd be fine with the way you have it wired now.
