you will notice in the picture from the first post that the condensor is just hanging out ungrounded. I will ground it tonight.

I will pull the battery from my tundra, ground the condensor and regulator (even though the alternator is pulled), recheck ground on solenoid, hook my jumper starter switch to the correct studs and give it a whirl.

The condenser in the second picture is a noise filter for the Voltage Regulator, the one Fordman is talking about is the one inside the distributor…

If you don’t have the alternator hooked up I would unplug the wires to your Voltage Regulator. :2cents:

You are on track for your “starter jumper switch” to hook up correctly now, using the Battery positive and the small (S) post on the solenoid.

If you were getting a pulse on the (+) coil wire when you cranked the motor over but no spark, I would check to make sure the rotor is not shorted to ground and is making good connection with the cap, the coil wire to the cap is good (not open), and after that would be the coil itself. :2cents:

You said after that it could be the coil. My Chilton book has some coil tests but I will need to know what kind of distributer I have.
The four options are:
Dura Spark I
Dura Spark II
Dura Spark III
TFI-IV

How can I identify which it is?

I will wiggle the condensor in the distributer tonight.

It's none of those... Those are all the newer electronic distibutors, your truck should have a Points type distibutor in it unless someone upgraded it...

Starter coil tested fine. I put everything back together and tested for spark. Magically it was there. A little gas and an engine that hasn't ran for 2.5 years fired up. It blew a bunch of cattle feed and a rat carcas out of the pipes, but it ran all the same.
