Need help on a few headlight switch wiring

Post by carcrafter22 »

I am installing my 21 circuit EZ wiring harness right now and everything is going well but I have a question about 3 wires on the headlight switch.

This is in my 67 F100

1. Green with yellow stripe number 54 in the wiring diagram on this site.
The diagram shows it going toa 9 amp fuse in the fuse block. What is this for? I am wondering if its for the dome light power since number 53 black with blue stripe is the power wire for the dome light. Also why are there 2 of these wires?

2.There is a light blue with red stripe wire also but it doesnt show on the wiring diagram, any idea what it is for or where it goes?

Thanks
Randy

light blue with a red stripe at least on my 67 is for the dash lights and the green with a yellow stripe is for where you get power for your dome light if you happen to have door switches.

my 67 didnt but i got the brackets and switches and made my own harness

if i got it wrong the electrical guru may chime in later

when i switched from the standard panel to the f600 panel for the round gauges i used my old harness since the colors were the same but several things hooked up different.

The guys are correct, and here are the details...

The Green - Yellow stripped wire is for the dome light power, it comes from the fuse box.
There is a diagram for this for the 67 but it is not correct it is WRONG  so I need to fix it... but this one for the 69 is going to be the same for the wiring... check it out http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... ycargo.jpg The reason for the 2 wires there is that it supplies the power to the door switches and to the light switch at once. This makes it so that you can turn on the dome light with the "light switch" when the doors are closed.
If you want to see the 67 diagram and get confused it is here... http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... ylight.jpg but it is really messed up... :( I will work on getting it corrected and post it later... (I also found one of the other 69 diagrams is a little wrong as well)

One thing you could do for me is confirm the color of the wires at the door switches. They should be one that is Green -Yellow stripe and one Black - Blue stripe... Let me know if this is correct.

The Blue - Red stripped wire is for the dash lights, see this diagram wire #19 http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... lights.jpg the power comes from the light switch and goes to the fuse box through the 2A. fuse then to the dash lights.

Hope this answers your questions. :)

i knew you'd chime in here eventually Thunderfoot. On my 67 the light switch wires ends came from a 72 but the colors you have are green or green/yellow stripe(cant quite tell). And the black with a blue stripe

I have shown what is wrong with this wiring in this diagram. I didn't highlight the wire numbers as there was just to many, but I marked the wires that would be "Hot" 12V all the time and you can see that the dome light would be on all the time.

This one I fixed the wire routing and the wire labels... this should be correct.

And for the 69 this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... lights.jpg the wire from the fuse block #54 is going to the wrong terminal, it is a little bit short... It should look like this (I just extended the wire, highlighted in Red)
