Where would the best place be to get power for a Duraspark ignition? i am wanting to use the start retard function of the box becuase of how a FE likes to start. does the run wire need to have power removed when you apply power to the start wire, or does it need power to both wires when you are cranking? if it needs power at only one wire i can get creative with a relay.
thanks.

re: Best place to get power
If I understand what your doing... You're wanting to connect a wire to the Dura spark that tells it when you are starting the engine for the timing retard correct?
I would hook this to the Starter Solenoid wire that goes to the coil, this is the "small" one on the same side of the Solenoid that the big cable goes to the starter. It only has power when you activate the starter, it's used to apply full 12V to the coil for easier starting… or you could also use the start wire for the solenoid, the one from the key switch (other small wire on the solenoid)… The "Run" wire needs to be on all the time for the motor to start/run…
Hope this is what your after...

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

re: Best place to get power
ok, now that i reread my first post i realize i wansnt that clear. what i want is the best location to hook up the switched 12v and the start retard wire of the duraspark box, and if the 2 wires can have power applied at the same time, because i dont want to fry the box.
so what i am looking for is:
1. where is the best place (possably under the hood) to hook up the switched 12v wire.
2. where is the best place (possably under the hood) to hook up the start retard wire.
3. can both wires be powered at the same time or do they have to be one or the other?
thanks.

re: Best place to get power
They need separate wire locations as the "start retard" only needs power when the starter is activating...
Here are a couple of good links that I found that have diagrams on them.
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_li ... arkII.html On this one, both of the "S" labeled terminals on the diagram would be to the "S" terminal on the starter relay... The "R" one is going to be the PINK ignition wire out of the key switch. You will need to connect it close to the Key switch as this wire is a resistive wire so the further away from the key the less voltage it will have on it… OR you might look in the engine compartment for a wire that would be used for the Carb Throttle Solenoid, if it is there… Look at this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... rging2.jpg at wire 932 (Blue wire) (It is for the 6 cylinder motors so the wire may or many not be there) you could tap/use it for this RED wire to the Duraspark...
This one http://www.mustangsteve.com/conversion.html Shows basically the same except that it is using an aftermarket performance coil that has the full 12V supplied to it instead of using the stock coil that needs the resistance wire to drop the voltage to the stock coil...
Hope this makes sense, if you have any question on these diagram let me know...
