Neutral safety switch location
My 69 Ranger has a steering column from a 79F150 with tilt and I have no reverse lights. I can't find the safety switch on the column. It has the C6 auto but when I put a new pan on it last year there were no wires that I could see going to the transmission. Any help as to where the switch would be will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Neutral safety switch location
The NSS is on top of the column - atleast on a bumpside

It has no nss on the column anywhere that I can see, top, bottom front or back. I'm wondering if the nss was hardwired when the 79 column was swapped into the truck.

Re: Neutral safety switch location
Does it have a cutout in the top of the column with a spring steel tab sticking out if it?

Re: Neutral safety switch location
Would that be the very top after removing steering wheel or just below the steering wheel?

Re: Neutral safety switch location
What Jamie is referring to is about 12" above where the column mounts to the floor. A rectangular cutout on top of the column. Hoever, in '78 they moved the NSS from the column to the tranmssion. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=29494

Re: Neutral safety switch location
There's no cut out on the steering column and no nss on the side of the transmission which leads me to believe that it has been hard wired. I can get the reverse lights to work if I jump wires at the rear of the truck so I will likely just install a switch under the dash within reach to control them.

Re: Neutral safety switch location
Well I found the nss hidden behind a bunch of wires underneath the dash. It was zip tied to some other wires and looks to have been hard wired. A jumper wire was soldered from one terminal to another and only one has power when the key is in the on position. None of the other terminals power up when put in gear. Wired up a switch to run the reverse lights and will mount it permanently once the leds for the dash come in.

Well, at least you found it anyway. My Fairlane never had back up lights to start with and I really haven't missed 'em.

Hasn't really bothered me in the past but doing the led conversion has brought out my OCD and if it's there I want it to work.

If you're feeling "crafty" here's another thread I found to add the bumpside NSS to a dentside column. Looks pretty simple. http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopi ... =6&t=37294
