Turn signal question

Post by yabadaba »

Hi, I have a 69 F100 here in the UK and technically it's supposed to have (only) amber rear turn signals to pass our MOT test (like your DMV test I believe). I took a look at the factory wiring diagrams in the tech section and using them I managed to add 'additional' amber LED turn signals, but the brake light bulbs still flash red, so I now have amber and red rear turn signals. Any ideas on what to do to get those bulbs to only light up when the brake pedal is depressed? Thanks.

You'd need to power the brake lamps from the brake switch itself vs. having them go through the turn signal switch. Ford did it in the '80's with the amber rear turn lamps so the diagrams should be out there. I pulled off the brake lamp switch when I installed my high mount stop lamp and it works correctly with the exception that the HMSL flashes with the emergency (hazard) switch pulled. I'm not sure if that's kosher in the UK or not so I mentioned it.
