point gap

Post by LilJack »

I know, I need a manual :D I have one ordered but the points, condensor and all need changing out. Truck won't start in the morning with the moisture but will at lunch. Anyhow, I have all the parts but need to know what the gap is on the points, also if anyone can give me the plug wiring to distributor sequence that would be great to make sure I don't screw that up.
Truck is a 72 f100 with 300 I6.
Thanks much for basic info

I just put in one of those aftermarket kits to convert the points over to electronic. I have no idea how it works but it took 15 minutes and I'll never have to set points again. Best money I've spent in awhile.

I just bought one out of JC Whitney, it was about a hundred with shipping. Truck starts a lot better and it will eliminate troubleshooting point gap anytime you have a hiccup. I have a set of points/cond in the glove box in case anything goes wrong, it's easy to swap in and out.

Wow Hutch.. you got ripped. Do a search on ebay for Ford Pertronix , or check out the main site:

http://www.pertronix.com/

This is the best 40.00 (ebay) that i spent, and it does take 10-15 minutes, never change/set points again AND you get the benefits of electonic ignition.

Again, just my :2cents:

When I said I "just" put one in it was actually a month or two ago. I went with JCW because if I order something from them I can have it within 48 hours, and I wanted to get it in asap because I was having issues with starting. Since I've purchased my set, the prices have dropped on the entry level type units. Last I saw the price of what I bought had dropped about 30 bucks in Whitney. Whatever the price, it was worth it.

For points gap a match book cover is the right size. Works every time.

And the fire order is on the top of your intake. on all the 300's I have seen.

A shot of wd40 will also fix your moisture problem.
