Turn signal went pop
I was already turning right a little and I moved the arm to activate the flasher and head a pop. Afterwards the turn signal does not cancel after a right turn. I assume the turn signal switch needs to be replaced?

Sounds like it. Unfortunately the cancelling cam is not easily replaced by itself. Not impossible, but questionable. It's riveted and so are the wiring connections. Tough to do in place even you can find an acceptable rivet.

Re: Turn signal went pop
I want to order the part and then pull the steering wheel and wanted to know it is probably the switch. It has been a few years since I have had the steering wheel off the column and my memory says it is the only thing that could break, just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the response Sargentrs.

If everything else appears to be functioning normally, it probably is the switch. However, hopefully, you don't encounter what I did just cleaning my shift collar. Kinda made a pop sound, too. Hope I don't jinx you by mentioning it!

Your best bet is to purchase the entire switch. Some company's sell just the plastic canceller that usually breaks. You can go this way without removing the column but it is only a temp fix if you ask me. The pain to get the clip on and hopefully its stays. I've always removed the column and replaced the switch. I'm just guessing the sound you heard was the canceller breaking. Here are some pics

Here's another pic to show you where the wires come out. You could try to run the wires with the column in. It would be frustrating to put all the wires back into the connector while laying on the floorboard under the dash.

Re: Turn signal went pop
When you replace the switch, use some duct tape to fasten a piece of clothesline or something similar to the wires BEFORE you pull them up the column. Then when you're ready to pull the wires back down the column, fasten them to the clothesline and use that to pull the wires back down.
I know it sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people don't think of that until they are ready to get the wires back down the column.

Re: Turn signal went pop
Thanks for all the posts and pictures of my switch problem they help with understanding what I need to do to fix the problem.
I think next summer I will be redoing the inside of Bruce (my daughter named it when she was 16). I need to; work on rebuilding the heater flaps, fix windshield wiper leaks, do turn signals repairs, replace headliner, install good used dash cover, and repaint everything. Seems it would be best if I just acquire parts and take a week of vacation in June and redo everything at the same time. And I think I will install carpets for sound control and to decrease potential rust issues.
I already have the dash cover, driver's side kick panel vent and gaskets and good used door panels, now I just need decent paint, maybe I will drive to another state and see what I can get that will stick and holdup to everyday use.
