only starts if you jump the solenoid but wait..

Post by InsaneScout »

Gents,
I have a 73 F100 w/302 Automatic tranny. Here is the problem, I have no power to the headlights or dash lights, it wont start unless I jump the solenoid. I just bought it this way last week. It has a new solenoid and ignition switch. I have looked at the fusible link that goes from the solenoid to the alternator and somehow I just don't think that's it. but I don't really know what else to do. I was thinking it might be the neutral safety switch but that wouldn't have anything to do with my headlights and dashlights not working.

Please help.

You definitely have a power supply to the ignition switch issue . Your going to have to get a test light or a voltmeter and verify that the fusible link or wire is not open. A wiring diagram is your best friend here.

Thank you for the info, this is the one and only thing that I hoped it wasn't. I hate chasing wires.
I will start tomorrow.
Thanks.

Years ago I had a similar issue with my 69, it was a short in the headlight dip switch on the floor. Cheap fix if that is part of your problem.
