Part # for ground strap?

Post by patrickdotryan »

Hi guys. Does anyone have the part number for the grounding strap / wire that goes from the back of the intake manifold to the firewall on a '71 390? The sheath has cracked off mine leaving it mostly bare. I can see a partial number which could be C8Z?-???03-A. I THINK the Z is correct.

And yes, I know I can get an aftermarket one. I'll always try stock first. :D

Thanks, Patrick

Some of the aftermarket dealers use the orignal Ford part number as their part number. NPD doesn't but I think LMC does. Try that first as a means to get the part number

Thanks Mach428. I've found that with LMC they're increasingly selling parts that are just replacements that will fit but are not much like the original. They have ground straps similar to NAPA and O'Reilly so it was hard to work out part numbers from that. Might be time to make a trip to the ford dealer and see if he can dig it up on the old microfiche! Cheers, Patrick

For those following along at home. I found a little scrap of the wire sheathing and it miraculously had the part number on it for the block to firewall ground strap. This is the grounding wire or ground cable that goes from a bolt on the rear of the manifold to the truck's firewall. That manifold bolt is one of two bolts that hold the throttle trapeze to the intake manifold.

The part number (at least on my truck) is C8ZB-14303-A

The old one from my truck fits correctly so I would guess is would be for Ford trucks with a big block FE (352, 390, 360). It might suit other trucks as well. It shows in most places as a part for a 68-69 Mustang. Marti Auto Works has manufactured Ford licensed reproductions of this cable. I have not bought one to see if they are correct or if they're the right length.
