I have installed a Accel 2020 points eliminator kit on my 1970 F100 (302). Ran good for about 2 months.
Yesterday on a shakedown run it gave up the ghost. First I thought it was the (old factory) coil, but later determined that it was the optical pick up coil.
Has anyone had any similar issues with these units? Disappointed with the product. One main issue i don't' like is that you have to use a special rotor from Accel. I know that there are some units that use the factory rotor. That would seem a better set up, should problems arise. I had to go to the parts store and return the truck to the stock points and condensor to get home. HA!
I like the thought of electronic ignition for lack of maintenance. Does anyone have any recommendations on a different points eliminator kits? or keep stock?
Thanks for your thoughts

If ya done your homework, Pertronix would have been the no-brainer choice.
I have one module in my fleet that has been running since the early 90s. I have never had a failure.

Accel makes garbage products, primarily imported from China.
People seem happy with the Pertronix. I have a Crane Cams unit that I will be using - I will let everyone know how it works out.

Re: Accel Points Eliminator Kit (issues)
I put a Accel points eliminator kit in and when the engine gets up to operating temp the truck dies until it can cool off. Am I right in thinking that I need a coil with more than 1.5 primary resistance to run this module? Or is it just crap?

What does the instructions say? Alot of those kits dont use our coils. And take a full 12 volts to the coil.
