I am rebuilding a 1972 engine. It has zero wiring with it.
Strictly for the engine, would I need to simply run 12v to a solenoid, and to the distributor? What is the simplest way to wire the engine? What is the easiest ignition system to use?
I have rebuilt an engine before but it was fuel injected and I had a plug and play harness for it.
If I am missing some existing conversations on this topic I apologize.

Re: 1972 351W wiring
from Georgia! The simplest ignition system is the Duraspark electronic ignition. The ignition module and a reman distributor are available at your local parts store. You will need the wiring harnesses and, unless you want to spend $140 for http://www.summitracing.com/parts/prf-3 ... 7AodLz4AAQ, you can probably find them at a junk yard near you. Look for any Ford car/truck with a similar engine from the late '70s. You will also need a starter solenoid. All of these vehicles came with Duraspark and you can find the harnesses from any of them. Just to be consistent, start with the trucks and full size cars.

Re: 1972 351W wiring
That's great information, thanks.
What benefits would I experience from installing a kit like the one linked below on a pretty much stock engine (haven't decided on cam, intake or carb yet but am not going to go overboard)? Is that pretty much plug and play?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pnx-c ... /make/ford
Or would this be a cheaper alternative?
http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/Ford- ... butor.html
Basically, this truck is going to be a street cruiser. I don't need it to be a dragster but would like some extra horses. I want to find the best mixture of cost vs benefit.
If the best way is to stick with the duraspark, then that is perfect. but if for a few dollars more I can get a lot of added performance, I would consider saving up the coin.
