I have a 1969 Ford F-350. the radio, emergency flashers, heating blower motor, and parking break light didn't work at all or were working improperly. After a while I decided to remove two wires from the fuse panel. suddenly the blower motor and flashers began to work. the parking break light does work, but it only lights up when I have the key in the "Start" position.
one of the wires I unplugged was a white wire going into the top port leading to the parking brake.
the other was an orange wire that led to a small grouping of wires coming out of the lower port. the wires it led to was the negative of the aftermarket parking brake and the red wire that goes to the radio with an inline fuse.
if anybody needs more information or pictures please let me know.

Not exactly sure what you had going on there. And if those wires went to aftermarket items as I think your post stated, then more than likely, the problems were caused by the incorrect connections made by whoever installed those. Hard to tell what you are referring to without pictures.
One thing to note is that the brake light is not your parking brake light. That light is connected to the distribution block in your braking system and lights up when the system loses pressure. So if the light is NOT on, that is a good thing. I believe it is supposed to light up when you turn the key to ACC without the engine running. Once you start the truck, the light should be off. So it sounds like your warning light is working properly.
