Aftermarket Gauge Wiring

Post by 67dually »

I'm looking to wire up some electronic water temp and oil pressure gauges in my truck, same reason anyone else would want to. My question is could I use my factory sending units? I'm not concerned with keeping the factory dummy lights, etc. Anything electrical goes in one ear and out the other.

No. If your truck has "idiot lights" then the existing oil and temp senders will not work with gauges.

Even if your truck has factory gauges, the existing factory senders probably wouldn't match the aftermarket gauges. The gauges might work, but they wouldn't be very accurate.

:yt: Any gauges you buy will have sending units that either come with them or available for purchase seperately. But you need the sending units that go with your new gauges. Just swap the sending units but you can use the existing sender signal wiring if you wish. You will need to run switched power wires and grounds, and depending on you gauges, you will need to tap into the dash light wiring for the new gauge lights.
