Trouble-shooting Emergency Flashers

Post by HOWDY69 »

I'm fixing to get the emergency flashers working today. According to this diagram, emergency and stop (brake?) lights are on the same fuse. So if the brake lights work does that mean the fuse is not the problem for the emergency flashers?

Yeah, if they are both on the same fuse, Brake lights and Hazards that is, and the brake lights work but the hazards don't, then the fuse is good. I would check the flasher unit itself. There should be two flashers under the dash near the instrument panel. One is for the turn signals and the other is for the emergency "hazard" lights. They just unplug. They make a clicking noise when in use, so, if your turn signals work, don't pull out the flasher that clicks with the turn signals. Unplug the other flasher instead and take it to the parts store with you. Most parts stores should have replacement flashers, not expensive items either. :) IHTH

Decided to start in the glove box since it is easier to get to than the dash. I found all the pieces in the glove box except one of the copper staples. I was able to reassemble the switch and get the rears to flash and I could hear the flasher working. Then the plastic piece broke.

I called my local Mustang shop and they said they would hunt one down for me on Monday. As long as the prongs match I can reuse the bracket.

Thanks for the heads-up. The NPD web site lists the applications as 66 mustang, 67 F100-350, and 68-69 F100-350 w/o AC. That is consistent with what I have read elsewhere which is the mustang part will plug in but the bracket hole spacing may be different than the truck. It's a one nut swap to the old bracket.

I'm trying to support local brick and mortar when I can and they offered to find it for me. Also, I needed a part for the 71-73 and reason to get away from my desk at lunch. 8)
