I'm trying to decide whether to replace my corroded, sticky heater control valve with a stock type metal one or a plastic replacement one. I'm afraid the metal one will corrode again with our Michigan rain, snow, and salt. I'm afraid the plastic one will break.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Just my
But the metal valve that came in your truck took 40+ years to get the way it is. I would think that if you went with a metal valve, it would last quite a bit longer than you may think. Plastic on the other hand, well....

Re: Metal vs plastic heater control valve
i got the plastic one because i couldn't find the metal one until i already bought it.
its ok, but the cable hooks up slightly different. the plastic one was like 17 bucks... probably worth a few extra dollars to go metal but i wouldn't pay some crazy 30 bucks for it or anything.
the plastic one moves very easily, no idea what the metal is like.

Re: Metal vs plastic heater control valve
I just ordered a metal one from Amazon for $16.16.
I'll post an update when I get it installed.

Re: Metal vs plastic heater control valve
My Autozone one (I assume plastic) went in very easily. It moves freely, I smeared some grease on the outer pivot screw (point) to help keep the rust out.
I tried to line everything up perfectly to avoid any binding.
