tail lights all out! driving at night...FIXED Thanks

Post by KRob »

Someone just pulled up next to me and told me I had absolutely no tail lights. My head lights are working. Is there anything I can easily check to see. Its dark, rainy, and I have next to no tools. Thoughts?

If your flashers work turn them on to start. If not, check if your brake lights are working. If they are, loosen the nut on your brake light switch enough so your brake lights come on. That'll at least get you home without being rear ended.

Everything in the front works nothing works in the back. I saw no blown fuses. I didn't see any wires hanging below.

It's dang near impossible to troubleshoot over the web... It rests on your wrench-worthiness and that awesome tool between your ears to figure it out.

Well i am home. So i guess i will have to take a look tomorrow in the light.

My first guess is a i jammed a stick up there some how and ripped the wires out. But will see. Looks like i am going to be spending a lot of time with a test light.

Thanks, for the speedy responses, i was hoping there was something i was over looking like a second fuse panel or something.

bad ground through the bed?

do you have a trailer wiring harness, i've owned a couple trucks with badly hacked-in trailer harnesses that have shorted and killed the rear lights.

Motzigg,

You are correct....bad hacked up trailer wiring harness. I have not started looking yet though. So no idea right now.

yep yep.

there are two plugs just behind the axle that connect the whole rear harness. i'm planning on re-doing mine from those plugs-back, probably this weekend, and adding a 6-pin RV plug. i'll post schematics and pictures when i get around to it.

You know.....i don't think its healthy for part of your wiring harness to get wrapped around your steering shaft. So any way problem found.

Thanks.
