gauge issues...am I thinking right???

Post by happycamper »

All of my gauges are reading high...gas reads about 1/4 tank when actually empty; found out the hard way...oil reads almost all the way and the temp is reading high too. Is this a bad regulator on the back of the cluster? I replaced the oil sender and temp sender, but it stayed the same. I am probably reading into it too much but, my wiring to the engine senders has broken a couple of times and had to be butt spliced; not sure if this will add to the erroneous readings...I would really like to find someone who sells a new harness for them.

Sounds like you need to adjust the voltage going to all of the gauges. They usually are low, not high like yours, but if they are all off in the same direction I think that is your problem. Check out this post and then you could try doing a search on the topic if this isn't adequate.

:yt: They also sell the voltage regulators new if it won't calibrate correctly for you. And you might also want to put a "wanted-engine side ignition wiring harness" in the want ads. Surely someone here is scrapping out a truck that has one they'd sell cheap.
