Need to replace Tires on 69 F250CS- Recommendations Please.

The current tires are 16.5 and they are older than dirt. My tire guy told me that this size is more expensive to replace and I should consider going to a 16 with new wheels. My problem is that I like the white wheel with the stock dog bowl wheel cover. I wouldn't mind restore those wheels and getting 16.5.

However, I am willing to consider other alternatives.

I would appreciate any feedback with a tire/wheel combination. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Ford built countless trucks and vans with 1 piece, 8 lug, 16" wheels that will accept dog dish hub caps. These are pretty common in salvage yards. With 16" wheels you'll have a far better selection of tread designs to choose from.

you can get them from trucks and vans up to 97. for the F250. then they went to metric.

Check out craigslist to find some take offs from someone upgrading rims on their truck. Other makes (chevy / dodge) should fit too. Be sure to measure the bolt pattern and center hub hole or test fit one before you buy them.

The bolt circle on many GM and Dodge wheels is the same the center hole however is the problem. I've found a lot of GM wheels that the hole is too small to fit a Ford.

I went through this exact same scenario about 10 years ago. I HATED my 16.5" split rims and nylon tires on my F250. So I went to the junkyard and found a donor truck with 16" solid wheels. Paid the dude, took them to a sandblasting shop and had them blasted; picked them up and took them home to paint white. I noticed one of the four was a different width; another was slightly bent.

So I scrapped the damn things and found a place where I live in Ocala, Florida that sells brand spanking new Ford 16" wheels of the right width for less money than I would've had invested in the junkyard dogs. I bought them, primed and painted them, mounted 16" Bridgestone truck radials on them and have thoroughly enjoyed the ride and look for the last 10 years. Oh my bright finish dogdish hubcaps work perfectly on them too.
