I've not bought one, but there is quite the following on the net. Google clone engine kart racing. Every time I pass it in Harbor Freight it gives me the urge to build a kart. Not like I don't have enough projects going on

Check Craigslist or the local classifieds in your area. I always wanted to build a go-kart, and every once in a while 11HP (and either 9 or 13 don't remember) Honda or B&S engines would pop up.

68 Ford F100 longbed - the tow pig / TLC project

I'm sorry if I ask lots of questions, there's just a lot of stuff I don't know (yet).

I stopped at the scrap yard office this morning and saw 3 garden tractors on the tin pile. They can't all have bad engines. Most yards treat lawn equipment like appliances and automotive sheet metal. Drop it in the tin baler and hit the start button. Depends on company policy but some yards will let you buy from the pile others won't.

also what would be a good welder to start with? I am taking a welding class next year at the local IT school.
I'll get it one piece at a time and it wont cost me a dime...

That's a great idea, to take a class at a local school. I took two classes at a local VoTech here in the evenings during the 08-09 school year.

Can't recommend specific brands or models of welders, but you should definitely start with MIG welding (aka GMAW or Gas Metal Arc Welding). It's the easiest and most common form of welding today. Good luck!

for go carts not for racing just get a old riding lawn mower and take the engine off of it.
