Help Me Identify these wheels ..........

Post by 68Mercury250Ranger »

sorry guys its not a bump, but I bought it for the wheels and the wrong year beauty bumper on the rear.

No luck identifying the wheels yet.

2nd owner said they were on when he bought it in 1984. truck is a 1982. wheels are 15" and look to be 7.5-8.5" wide.
any help would be awesome, I am hoping to find a spare in case one ever gets wrecked. I don't really want to stick a new set of rubber on them and put them on one of my old trucks if I can't find a spare one.

thanks in advance, there is a lot of Ford experience here, somebody must know

They look like they are after market but they do look nice. I like the box rails also they might look good on a bump.

I think the rails are off a dentside, not sure but I have a set on a bump, I will compare closely. I'm thinking the wheels are aftermarket too, but Ford put out some strange option trucks/vans over the years. I remember an "XLS" option package on Fseries in the late 70s/early 80s ? or maybe from one of those "denim vans". I've never seen these wheels, thats why the truck caught my attention in the first place

the back bumper definitely isn't period correct, I was thinking dentside because the brackets will fit up to a 96 frame.

the PO wasn't a Ford guy, so the Ford bits could be from any year  he only used it in the summer for hauling around dirtbikes. hasn't seen an Ontario winter since 89 :D
about the same shape as the average 2002/2003 truck around here.

Did you look on the back of the wheels for a manufacturers stamp? I have a sneaking suspicion...

It might be, I've seen that style on these trucks before.

As for the wheels they look aftermarket.
Maybe you Google images for American Racing Wheels? or some other brand.
they were quite popular then. :2cents:

The wheels look an awful lot like the factory Ford aluminum ones that were available at the time, but not quite the same. Look at the first set-

At first I thought they may be a factory option but I can't find any literature that shows them, so they are probably an aftermarket "improvement" on the factory ones.

I know the centres are the only part that is "American Racing Wheels"
I can't do the google image search thing, my 28.8kbps rural lowspeed doesn't work fast enough. maybe try it at work :shh:
I've only seen this style bumper on pre 1980 trucks.

the wheel in that 83 manual look close but have 5spokes instead of the 6 spokes on mine.

thanks for the input guys keep er comin

This one's a real noggin scratcher :hmm:, but I think the look an awful lot like the rims pictured below, but I've only seen them on Chebys, they were on my Nova, they were stock on many S10's in the late 70's and through the 80's? Maybe Chevrolet outsourced the wheels and that same company made them for Ford lug patterns? Or they were re-centered for a 5x5.5 lug pattern as opposed to the 5x4.75 pattern that were on the chebys? Anyways here's the pic I was referring too:
Image

**Edit your rims are 6 slots and the ones I posted are 5 so that can't be . Seems I've seen the same rims on your truck on a Bronco before :hmm:?

Truck is at my work, going in early for my afternoon shift tommorrow. I'll be yanking off the bent parts and taking out the rad to repair the puncture, I will try and get some more pics of just the wheels.
I've asked around all my Ford buddies and still nothing on them. PO told me it said "made in California" on them somewhere if that might help. last nice set of wheels I bought were the MT Challengers on my 68 Merc, and that was almost 10yrs ago.

I've got a lot of ford guys doing the :hmm:

Remember, 80-82 had the oddball wheel pattern...so those could be a brand X wheel. I would look on the back of the wheel for a stamp like was mentioned before.

I have five matching Ford aluminum wheels all with tires on an 81, but the spare tire is different than the 4 on the truck. Would let them go for the right price.

only the F100s had the small 5x4.5 car pattern
and I think it was only on the 3.8 V6 F100s :hmm:
more choices of wheels though
