Intermittent Wiper Question

Post by Doug F »

First, I don't have the wiring in front of me, and didn't have a schematic in front of me while doing the swap, but I can tell you it is an 87 Truck wiper assy, and it is hooked up to my 67 harness, EXCEPT for the black wire (950) that goes to/from the heater.

The 87 harness has 6 wires and the 67 switch has 7 wires, what can I do with the 7th wire #950? I didn't know what this wire was and haven't yet checked the heater to see if it still works. What is this black wire for? There is no heat involved with the windshield wipers! Is 950's job to leach ground off another switch? :hmm:

Good news is that the intermittent wipers work great, plus I have the 2 regular speeds and washer.

950 is a fused pos. (+) power source when the ignition switch is turned on.
763 is also a pos. (+) power source when the ignition switch is turned on, but it is not fused.

Which means that the '67 wiper switch has two power feeds.

I imagine that since 950 and 941 are grouped together, they are the circuit that runs the washer pump (fused) only, and 763 runs the wiper motor only (un-fused.)

Does your washer pump work when you push in the wiper switch?

If so, then the newer switch has eliminated wire number 950 and runs both the motor and washer pump off of wire 763.

If not then you may want to check out the bottom of this page: http://www.fordification.com/tech/wiperdelay.htm

Correct  The newer style switches use the same power for the wipers for the washers so no need for this 950 wire on the new switch.
