I972 360 c.i.d.

Post by wcm413 »

Hello , I have a question that may be tough to answer unless you are fairly familiar
with the internal parts of a 360 . I took the oil pan off to replace the oil pump and
there were 2 pieces ( it was supposed to be in one piece )in the bottom that made a circle
about as big as a nickel with a hole thru the middle . It is about 3/8 ths inch wide like
a ring you would wear on your finger . It has a lip sticking out on one side like it slides
into something and the lip would hold it in place . It also has four small holes spaced in
four places thru the sides of it like for oil flow or something . I'm going to try to upload
a picture that might make it easier . I sure would appreciate any help , I can't put it back
together tilI find out what this is .

Thanks ,
Bill

Bushing out of the bottom of the distributor most likely. Pull the dizzy and move the shaft on the bottom if it goes back and forth you need to replace the dizzy.

If not that, it is the collar from between the dizzy gear and the dizzy housing. If it is that collar it can shoot the dizzy up into the cap and break the rotor and cap.

Thanks , I did that and it was a little loose . I pulled the distributor and could see that
the pin was still thru the shaft but the collar was missing . You wouldn't happen to
know the technical name for that part would you ? I haven't had any luck finding a
replacement on the internet .

Thanks .

Like you said and I found out from the ford dealer that they don't make
parts for distributors anymore . You have to buy the whole thing . I'm
shopping around for one and I will check Ebay .

Thanks ,

To me buying used Dizzys and Carbs is like using someone else's condom. You will have no idea when they will break. They are for sure wore out by the time they reach eBay.

At least a rebuilt one will have the wore out shafts, bushings and holes repaired.
