72 Ford F-100 custom 302 to 351W swap??

Post by smokenssz »

Hey everyone I have a 72 F-100 that has a 302 currently with a 3 speed manuel that I'm about to pull out and put in a 351w with a built c4 tranny. My question is what kinda problems will I run into doing this swap? Is it going to be a big pain or a pretty much basic swap? Will everything pretty much bolt right up? Thanks for the help!!

Should be pretty straightforward. Most longtube headers might have fitment problems I'm told. All of the 351Ws I ever had were very thirsty.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Whats wrong with the 302? Is it rebuildable or does it have a rod out the side of the block??

Never been a big fan of the 351w in stock trim. The 302 seems like it has just as much oomph as a stock 351w & get better mileage to boot. :2cents:

i have a 351w in my 68 f-100 and everything is just fine except as willow mentioned long tube headers are a pain in the @$$ and if you use the stock 302 manifolds you will possible need to bend your exhaust pipe to fit (351w is an inch taller) but yeah other than that everythink shoudl just bolt right in!!!

Well my brother gave me the motor and it already had alot of aftermarket parts on it...like 4 barrel carb, upgraded ing, and other good parts...I would have to spend like 1000 more to rebuild my 302, I just decided to go with the windsor...Im going to keep the factory 302 and rebuild it later

Oh, I didnt know the 351 was already built up. That sounds like agood deal to me! Nothing like a free motor with good components.

Better hang onto the 302, the 1st gen. 302's are getting hard to find....
