Back way...up now! Didn't Johnny Cash originally sing "Hot Rod Lincoln"? :hmm: I never knew there was so many versions of it.

Some Jerry Reed (Smokey and the Bandit song)
A little Jamie Johnson (North Carolina song)
Some Sammy Hagar (I can't drive 55)
A little Alabama (Roll on 18 wheeler)
Some Skynyrd (Tuesdays Gone)
A little Boston (More than a feeling)
Some John Cougar Mellancamp (Jack and Diane)

I better stop and give everyone else a crack at this...

ZZ Top Nationwide

Well I was movin' down the road in my v-8 ford,
I had a shine on my boots, I had my sideburns lowered.
With my new york brim and my gold tooth displayed,
Nobody give me trouble cause they know I got it made.
I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Girl I'm bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, I'm nationwide.

Nope. Not even close.

Charlie Ryan recorded it in 1955 and again in 1959.

Johnny Bond recorded it in 1959 and released it in 1960. That was the more popular version (#26 on the charts) and the first one I heard.

Commander Cody & his Lost Planet Airmen recorded it in 1972. Their version was the most popular, going to #9 on the charts.

By the way, "Hot Rod Lincoln" was an "answer" song to Arkie Shibley's "Hot Rod Race", one of the first Rock and Roll Records.
