Im not sure. I wish I had one that I could measure in circuit. Theres a ballast resistor before the mechanical regulator that is a current limit. The voltage through the mechanical regulator might be a pulsing 12V but its current limited. Where Im going with this is, I dont think the higher voltage will damage the guages if you are limiting the current somehow. Since they have a heater winding in them they may not be able to handle a continuous current for a long period of time. I have some other ideas for emulating the mechanical reg that would involve a few more parts. PM me if you want details.

Heres a link I found. Maybe try this approach since they tried it on Ford clusters to replace thier IVR.

Only thing that im confused about is that at the end of the day, this guys device puts out 5 volts just like the 5805 regulator does. Ill have to do some more reading.

I'm curios as to why the solid state ivr does not connect to the second terminal on the printed circuit but instead to the shared ground that the ivr bolts to? otherwise if this will work and make the guages read more accurate or even at all i'd opt to have someone make a few for other members to buy.

I made the unit last night. I really wasnt expecting the thing to work at all. Some things in the wiring diagram just dont make a lot of sense.
Ill let you guys know how it works out after I install it today.

Hey guys. So i made the unit that flyboy posted and it works perfectly. Im just waiting on my new fuel tank sending unit to adjust it for accuracy but I havnt had any trouble with it!
