Any suggestions on removing a broken bulb?

Post by derek7871 »

Both parking light bulbs on my '68 Ranger will not come out. The glass part of the bulb has become unattached from the metal part that attaches to the socket. I figure I'll have to break the bulb and then try to get the metal part out. Does anybody have any wisdom or advice?

after removing power from the circuit, break out the glass and use a pair of needle-nose pliers to bend/remove the metal casing. easy to do.

and BTW :wel: to the site! there's lots of technical papers and info in the links at the top of the page for you to drool over!

Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't be too much of a headache.

What he said, and afterwards, use a bit of emery cloth or fine sandpaper to clean up the corrosion that's sure to be in there. A little dielectric grease goes on every bulb I replace, now. Used sparingly, it keeps the moisture out of the contact areas quite well.

If you have a wine cork, you can usually cram it in enough to get a bite. The grease when reinstalling is key.

I finally found time to remove those bulbs. I know ya'll were are the edge of your seats waiting. Anyway, I ended up breaking the glass and using a pair of needle nose to get the metal part of the bulb out. Thanks for the advise.
