Horn repair, some thing else I didnt know.

Post by CJ,s 67 F100 »

My horn quit again and it took 10 days this time to find it.
Your horn will not work if the horn relay is not grounded good.
It will click loudly so you know your horn button on the steering wheel is working but it will not blow.
This time I checked ground to every thing except that.
I had replaced it when it quit last time and now I remember I didnt clean the surface very good when I installed the horn relay.
Pulled it off the inner fender to try trouble shooting it and saw it had surface rust were the bolt holds it on.
Wire brushed it and every thing is fine. Just wanted to share this. Charles

Yep, it seems that a majority of electrical problems people have on these trucks can be traced to a bad ground. It's always a good idea to make put that at the top of the list when troubleshooting any electrical gremlins. :D

Quick note on horn operation:

It is also dependant on that little (brass?) Button inside the Steering weel having good contact.

So anytime the wiring and relay and hornpad checks out this is a possible gremlin as well.

In charles's(and 99.9% of all others')Case(s) it was a bad ground.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
