Wouldn't the cable for a lwb be longer than that of a swb, and it be possible that you could make one work?

The front cable (from the e-brake assembly back to the equalizer) and the two rear cables (from the rear brake backing plates forward) are the same for both longbeds and shortbeds. On shortbed trucks the two rear cables go directly into the equalizer. On longbed trucks there is an extension cable which bridges the gap caused from the increased wheelbase.

You can't relocate the equalizer or the front cable would end up being the wrong length. You just need those extensions and connectors. The setup pictured above is on my llongbed parts truck and I won't be needing them, if you're needing them.
