multimeter how-to
so I got a multimeter for christmas. I have no experience in anything electrical besides fuses,bulbs and the fact that black electrical tape can be used to fix shorts....so I got my engine steam cleaned and on the way home it started acting up and died. It happened in a very similar way to the way it failed then the coil went out. It wasn't all at once, it was a slow progressive failure. I am wondering how to check my current coil. The multimeter I have is one of those standard craftsman models. I don't know if that helps but....

Hi,
Sounds like something got wet when it was steam cleaned. Points, wires, coil how's your dizzy cap? I'd check that stuff first. Sorry, can't help you with what the exact readings should be. Good luck.

Yep it is the gas that is flamable, just like pretty much every other aerosol. OFF is always fun to use as a torch

Couple of good links with info on checking the coil with an Ohm meter. Problem is finding the exact specs for your coil, you may have to compare it with another good one that is the same...westernkansas wrote:back on topic how would one test a coil to see if it is good or bad?
