From what I've found out and been told, without the key it's VERY hard to remove the cylinder. (Theft deterrant and all).

I belive the only options available to you are

1. buy a new ignition switch and cylinder

2. call a locksmith

Get a couple more opinions, and as always,

I don't know who's been telling you it's hard, but it's far from hard....of course, this is assuming you have the key. :P All you have to do is stick a stiff wire into the small hole on the face of the tumbler to release the tumbler from the housing. However, you have to have the key to turn the tumbler since it'll only release in a certain position (Start?)

Without the key, about all I could suggest is in agreement with mrsnicks....take the assembly to a locksmith.

yeah i will try to pick it myself i just want a backup switch is all i want. but i have to get the tumbler out to do that. otherwise it's worthless. and a locksmith would be more than just buying a new one.

Okay, so I can be VERY distructive at times. But couldn't one just use a drill and carefully remove most of the center, just enough to get to the tumblers and get the keyed part to turn so the little hole would line up for the removal?

Just a random thought at 1:20am

Don't know if you have the switch out of the truck yet but I've found that the chrome bezel will clear the cylinder when turning it out. That way you can get the switch out and put it in a vice for the necessary 'surgery'.
