Better rear gear ratio?
1971 F-250, factory rear end 360 mated to a C6. I'm assuming dana 60 with 4.11 gearing? I found a rear end from a 96 F-350 diesel 3.55 gearing. What would be better for highway travel? Also, 96 rear end would be easier to work on rear brakes, drums just slide off

Re: Better rear gear ratio?
A 3.55 gear is better for the road than a 4.11. Don't know much else about the swap, others here may have done it and can comment. You'd want to be sure about the compatibility of parts before you step off to do it.

Measure the yoke size and spring perch width and go for it. Personally I think you'll be better off with a F-350 rear as those frames were closer to ours as far as width goes. I have a 10.25" Sterling ('90's Ford) in my '71 dually. I had to upgrade to the bigger driveshaft to make it work.

Ranchero50, can you expand on that install? like moving any spring perches? the disk brake set up, emergency brake? larger driveshaft? I also found one of those rear ends.
