Steering column not grounded enough for the horn to work?
Any one ever heard of the steering column not having enough ground in it that the horn wont work? Did the trouble shooting on my horn and when I ran a ground wire to the steering wheel from the battery - it worked fine. I finally ran a ground wire to the base of my steering column shaft at the rag joint and it works fine. I have a new ground wire from the battery - to the block. I have a new ground wire from the battery - to the frame. I have a ground wire from the the block to the fire wall. I have a new Ford/ Saginaw p/s gear box. Well not new but new to this truck. Changed out the column as well. Both are out of a 73 F250 donor truck I have. Any and all ideas are welcome.

Yep, with rag joints you need to run a ground acrossed it (from intermediate shaft to the gear).

Thats to funny. I fellow down the road from me pissed me off. When I worked grave yard I would, every great once and awhile, take off at lunch and blast one of them horns as I drove by. Dang, my gut still hurts from laughing.

re: Steering column not grounded enough for the horn to work
For telemarketers I just say "hold on a minute" as soon as I realize who they are and lay the phone down until i hear the tone that they have hung up LOL I have a friend that is a telemarketer and she said that is the worst thing I could do because they have to make so many calls per shift and this just kills 3 minutes they have to hold waiting for me to come back. She also said that is the best way to get off a phone list. So lets see I kill em with the wait and then I get thrown off the list. Whats the down side of this for me ? LOL

re: Steering column not grounded enough for the horn to work
Ran a nice new gound wire around my new rag joint and got her inspected one more time. They were real busy and had several vehicles waiting when I drove in and the guy saw me and came out and said he didnt need to pull mine in because it is emissions exempt so he checked the lights and put a sticker on it. He didnt even try to blow the horn Thanks every one, Charles

We got lucky here in NC, they just passed a law. Vehicles 35 years and older are exempt from all State Inspections. Only drawback to this is the piece of **** Chevy's can now legally stay on the road till they break down on the side of it.

Patrick, I think its 25 years old here are exempt from emissions testing. Every vehicle has to be inspected.
